If your dentist recommends a dental extraction, it may be for a number of reasons.

The Dental Extraction Procedure

We will do this with the help of a local anesthetic shot; only in a severe case will you require general anesthesia to ensure you are asleep throughout the entire procedure.
Once the affected area is numb, you will not feel any pain however some patients report that they could feel a bit of pressure during the procedure. If you are concerned about the pain of the procedure, speak to one of our helpful dentists to discover your options.
During the extraction process, your dentist will first detach the tooth from the gums and then loosen it from the walls of the bone. The tooth is then easily removed and your dentist will check the socket to ensure that the tooth is fully removed and the operation site is fully clean.
To finish off the procedure, your dentist may stitch the operation area to ensure adequate healing. The wound will then be cleaned and packed with a gauze pad.
After A Dental Extraction
It is completely normal to experience swelling after a dental extraction. This will typically go down after 4-5 days. Be sure to apply an ice pack over the area to control swelling. You may also experience pain or difficulty while opening your mouth. As the swelling decreases, the pain will subside naturally, as well.
